Frequently asked questions
What's Axolotl?
It's yet another generative AI front end. Built to scratch my own itch, it aims to be a snappy, local-first front end that's available on most devices and works against most providers.
What isn't it?
A full-featured, full-coverage implementation of APIs, parameters, providers, modalities, protocols and recent trends. I have no clear idea on constraints yet, but usually focus on what I need.
Data and privacy?
Axolotl stores all your data on your device using OPFS. Export and import database snapshots at any time. Modify at your own peril.
If you use external providers, their rules apply for their servers. Axolotl gives you the options to "deny data collection" for some providers that support it.
The archive?
Archived data (sessions, providers, messages) are visually hidden from the interface. The data is still available in your database and backups, but you can't interact with it through Axolotl.
